They once comprised an ancient empire centred in southern Madagascar . The Sakalavas are moreso a diverse ethnic group, than an ethnic group in its own right. The Sakalava dialect and colourful African characteristics distinguishes its people from other etnic groups in Madagascar.<br clear="all">
