Alternatively, make the local arrangements via the Marojejy Guides Association. Its members are all certified. Dealing directly with the local guides may offer the best value for both visitors and the guides. Even among visitors who don't know it, simply visiting the park fosters a mutually beneficial relationship between nature and the local communities. Most guides, all porters, cooks, forest guards and those maintaining the trail are from the local communities.
The employment opportunities by guiding visitors help preserve the park in that the local population come to depend more on ecotourism than farming alone and since the communities can only profit from ecotourism if the forest is preserved. This Ecotourism encourages the local population to respect park boundaries and avoid overusing natural resources, such as clearing land in and around the forestarea.
