Small port town, not for big ships, only for transport to Sainte Marie Island and more remote areas of northeast Madagascar that are not easily accessible by road.
Very good internet connection through mobile networks due to the nearby transmission towers.
Large river flows into ocean.
Most houses made of tin.
Accommodation at the taxi-brousse station Hotel Concorde. 25,000 Ariary with restaurant (best rooms on top-floor).
The best accommodation and restaurant in town is Resto Hotel Chez Jardin de Natafred
