The small, only 15cm large and 20-25g light Sakalava weaver is endemic to Madagascar. The birds prefer to live in colinies with nests spread all over one or several standing close to each other trees. In extreme cases, one tree can be packed with over 100 nests. The entrance of the nest is tube-shaped and pointed downwards, so that predators can not easily access it.
