Brickaville is an agricultural centre with plenty of fruit and vegetables. The unusual and exotic mangosteen friut fruit is available here. The area near Brickaville once included cacao plantations and [[Chocolaterie Robert]], the first chocolate factory in Madagascar, was originally located in this town. As the cocoa farmers moved to the [[Ambanja]] region in the northwest of the country, the cocoa plantations were converted into sugar cane fields. A train track between Antananarivo and Tamatave runs through Brickaville.
