Ambanja is a largest the capital town within of the disctrict by the same name in north northern Madagascar, . The town is located along the beautiful [[Sambirano]] river. The population is approximately 30,000. Ambanja is enroute [[Nosy Be]] and approximately 20 km from [[Ankify harbour]], where boats to [[Nosy Be]] and [[Nosy Komba]] departs.

The population is approximately 30,000. About 60 percent of the population live from farming and the most important crop is crop is cocoa. Other importantcrops include vanilla, rice and coffee. About Industry provide employment for about 26 percent and the services sector for about 2 percent. Approximately 10 percent of the population make a living from fishing.
Ambanja has is enroute [[Nosy Be]] approximately 20km from [[Ankify harbour]], where boats to [[Nosy Be]] and [[Nosy Komba]] departs. There is a domestic airport which is currently (March 2010) not served by [[Air Madagascar]](March 2010). <!-- Check: Is there a harbour? -->
