En effet Madagascar offre une large diversité de toutes les formes du vivant : micro-organismes, végétaux, animaux. 12000 espèces végétales, soit 3% de celles de la planète entière, ont trouvé à s’épanouir sur l’ « Ile aux cinq continents » ! Beaucoup sont endémiques. Elles n’existent qu’à Madagascar. De cette richesse végétale, que la Nature lui a donnée, les Malgaches ont appris au fil des siècles à connaître les principes actifs présents dans les innombrables plantes médicinales, et en extraire une autre richesse, ayant des vertus parfois miraculeuses : les huiles essentielles.
