Sambirano is a valley in north west Madagascar producing cocoa beans famous for a particular brand of premium quality organic Malagasy chocolate.

The name also refers to the Sambirano River which originates at Massif du Tsaratanana and flows into the Ampasindava Bay, where it joins the Ramena river, at south Ambanja.

The name is also refers to the plain where the river runs towards the sea, which is highly fertile as it benefits from a hot and humid climate, similar to the eastern part of Madgascar, while in general, the west coast of Madagascar is drier.
