After about eight kilometres along the RN5a from Sambava, turn left at the crossroad village of Ambariomihambana where the RN3b to Andapa begins.
There are villages every few kilometres the route but none with high standard accommodations until Andapa where so it's best to complete the stretch in a single day, perhaps arriving at the Andapa peak by sunset, from where there only a few kilometres of rolling downhill into town is left. From the peak, there are several viewpoints of Andapa Basin.
Throughout much of the bike ride, there are many impressive views of the Marojejy massif with its 2,132 metres peak.
The Andapa Basin itself offers bike and trekking opportunities in all directions. Except for in Andapa itself, there is no tarmac, just countryside dirt road and trails. For example, complete a 13km return bike ride to [[Ampontsilahy]] in an easy half or one day return trip from Andapa. See [[Andapa to Ampontsilahy by bike]]. Alternatively, stay overnight at the basic hotel accommodation in Ampontsilahy and continue from there by foot along less bikable routes at higher elevations, such as such as to [[Tanambao Andapa|Tanambao]] and [[Tsaramandroso]] and further.
