Nosy Lonja, or Sugarloaf Island, is the small island in Diego Bay pictured on many postcards and in travel literature for the area. This small island has become a landmark symbolising both the town and the bay of Deigo. A picture of the island also appears on the 100 Ariari banknotes. It is considered fady by locals to visit the island as it is said death will follow those who step ashore, as such, no people live there and no and boat transfers are available. One can however admire the view from the safe distance of shore.
