Nosy Lonja, or Sugarloaf Island, is a small island in Diego Bay pictured on many postcards and in travel literature. This small island has become a landmark symbolising both the town and the bay of Diego. A picture of the island also appears on the 100 Ariari banknotes. It is considered fady by locals to visit the island as it is believed death will occur to those who step ashore, as such, the island remains uninhabited and boat transfers are not available. One may however admire the view of the island from a safe distance of the shore.
