This tour is amongst the best ways to discover Madagascar's animals and cultures - adventures - northeast part of Madagascar. An experience you will not forget, combining wildlife and adventure, cultures and the amazing landscape along the Route National 5 (RN5).

Tour description

Day 1: Antananarivo (D)
Arrival in Antananarivo (known as Tana). Transfer to your hotel near downtown Tana. Rest and recreation to recoup after the long flight. Dinner and overnight at Sole Hotel.

Day 2: Tana to Andasibe (B, L, D)
After breakfast, we depart with your nature guide/tour leader and drive through the highland countryside to Andasibe - Mantadia National Park. En route, we'll stop at the La Mandraka Nature Farm; a breeding project for chameleons, reptiles... After lunch further along the route, we continue onto the Analamazaotra Reserve (Perinet) and check into the Feon' ny Ala Lodge. In the evening, we join our guide for a walk in the reserve in search of mouse lemurs, frogs, chameleons... Overnight at Feon' ny Ala Lodge.

Day 3: Feon' ny Ala Lodge to Andasibe National Park (B, L, D)
After breakfast, we'll drive to Andasibe National Park, known as the Indri Special Reserve, a park where endemism is particularly rich in biodiversity. The park has an interesting interpretation centre at the entrance. The highlights include the Indri indri, Madagascar’s largest lemur species that gives birth in May, Parson's chameleon, amazing bugs, butterflies, lizards and over a hundred species of birds. Our visit allows us to admire Eastern montane rainforest and its epiphyte plants, such as orchids and bird-nest ferns. After our visit, we continue our drive to Tamatave. Overnight at Melvile Hotel.

Day 4: Tamatave - Antanambe (B, L, D)
After breakfast, get ready for the RN5 adventure down to Soanierana Ivongo, where we continue by ferry to Antanambe. Enjoy the most beautiful landscape of Madagascar's beaches and coastal forest, we can stop anywhere for photos. Overnight in Antanambe.

Day 5: Antanambe - Mananara (B, L, D)
This part of the RN5 with its incredible paradise beaches and small villages is named Analanjirofo region (cloves region or capital of cloves - jirofo means cloves in Malagasy). We will also pass coffee drying areas and beautiful rice fields along the route. We can learn and see the Betsimisaraka culture and adventures. Overnight at Mananara. Option for an evening walk for the Aye-aye.

Day 6: Mananara - Maroantsetra (B, L, D)
This will be your last part of the RN5. Enjoy the final paradise landscapes and visit a vanilla plantation. Secondary forest meets the ocean. Ferry crosses, then overnight in Maroantsetra at Coco Beach Hotel or similar.

Day 7: Maroantsetra - Tampolo - Masoala National Park (B, L, D)
After breakfast, we get ready for the boat ride to Masoala. Arrival on the Masoala peninsula and thereafter visit to the primary forest in search for Red ruffed lemurs and birds, such as the Helmet vanga. After we enjoyed the Masoala forest we return to the campsite.

Day 8: Masoala National Park (B, L, D)
After breakfast, we explore the primary rainforest of Masoala with its over 400 years old giant trees. We will enjoy lovely bird sounds, over 90 species can be spotted in Masoala. We will see lemurs jump around from tree to tree, such as the White-fronted brown lemur, and giant millipedes crossing the path in the jungle. At a water and biscuits break in the jungle, we can listen to 100 different sounds of nature simultaneously. Thereafter we walk slowly back to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon we relax on the nice beach and make some revision for the things we observed on the morning walk. In the evening we can go on a night walk to see the night-active lemurs, such as Brown mouse lemur and Sportive lemur. Thereafter it's time to return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 9: Masoala National Park / long walk (B, L, D)
Today we explore two types of forest in Masoala (secondary and primary) in search for Madagascar crested ibis, Helmet vanga, Bernier's vanga, Short-legged ground-roller, Lesser bamboo lemur, Madagascar pygmy-kingfisher. In the Masoala park, we will enjoy green forest and giant vine over 100 years old and walk along the river to find amazing tiny frogs. Thereafter back to the campsite.

Day 10: Masoala - Nosy Mangabe Reserve (B, L, D)
Today we will enjoy the beauty and wildlife of Nosy Mangabe. After breakfast, a one-hour boat ride to the island. Upon arrival, put shoes on and apply insect repellent to get ready for hiking on the island in search for lemurs, such as the Black-and-white ruffed lemur and White-fronted brown lemur. Then continue to search for geckos, also named king of camouflage, like the Leaf-tailed gecko, and frogs. Snakes, such as boa, can be seen as well if we are very lucky. Thereafter return to the campsite for lunch and to relax at the beach before taking a night walk for the Aye-aye, geckos and other nocturnal species. Camp overnight at the island.

Day 11: Nosy Mangabe - Maroantsetra - Antananarivo (B, L, D)
After breakfast, transfer by boat to Maroantsetra and from there to the airport for your flight back to Tana, one day before your international flight back home. End of our services.
