Antalaha, pronounced Antala (the last laugh is silent), is a coastal town in the north east, know for being the vanilla producing capital of Madagascar. The scent is intense and wonderful!

A long beautiful beach and sometimes huge waves is part of the scenery. The area is regularly affected by heavy cyclones and in 2004 and in 2007, virtually all its vanilla crops and much of the town was destroyed, but this is a town which always seems to rebuild itself.

Antalaha has an airport which is serviced by Air Madagascar. The town can also be reached by road from Sambava which takes about 1½ hours. Other available and more adventurous routes are a 3-5 days trek across the Masoala peninsula from Maroantsetra or via Cap East, or a journey by a cargo ship from Maroantsetra or Tamatave.
