Ambatomanga is one of the so-called twelve sacred hills outside of Antananarivo. Located about 37 kilometres east of the capital, Ambatomanga resembles the border between the Merina and Bezanozano territories.

Ambatomanga literally means "the blue rock". During the times of the Merina Kingdom, the location was residence for relatives of King Andrianampoinimerina.

The area of Ambatomanga offers great hiking opportunities. Hikers will walk along small rivers, pass green rice fields and small villages.
