Ambatolampy is a town in the Antananarivo province of 68 kilometres from the capital. In 2005 the population was 26,549. Ambatolampy literally means the “town at the foot of the rocks”.

Located located close to Tsiavajavona, which at 2,642 metres is the third highest mountain in Madagascar, this town is a good starting point for trekking to the peak.

Ambatolampy is renowned for its aluminium workshops making cutlery and cooking pots. Some workshops specialise in production of "football games" featuring the best international teams whereby the players are made of aluminium and hand-painted with a pine wood frame, with even a payment system to insert coins.
