Antalaha, pronounced Antala (the last laugh is silent), is a coastal town in the north east, known for being the vanilla producing capital of Madagascar. The scent here is intense and wonderful!
A long and beautiful beach often with often huge waves is part of the scenery. The area is regularly affected by heavy cyclones. In 2004 and in 2007 virtually all its vanilla crops and much of the town was destroyed, but this is a town which always seems to know how to rebuild itself. <!--The population of the district of Antalaha was estimated in 2001 at 75,000.-->
