Within Masoala National Park, about an hour's walk from the village of Ambodiforaha, lies Masoala Birding Camp. This camp is for those who wish to be as close to the nature as possible without unecessary conveniences and facilities offered by other camps.

Officially opened in 2017, the camp is run by Patrique, a local guide and Masoala birding expert from Ambodiforaha. Patrique and his team will prepare lunch, breakfast and dinner of your choice and will guide you to various bird watching spots in the surrounding forest while helping you identify various speices of plants along the way.

Masoala Birding Camp can be booked for day and lunch visits as well as overnight stays for one of more nights.

(Visit in masoala national park)

Classic circuit

CIRCUIT ONE

C 1-1: Visit Masoala for 3 nights at Masoala Birding Camp with small or big group.

Complete plan:

A-: FIRST DAY: Leave maroantsetra hotel in the morning join in masoala with speed boat (takes around 1h30 -2h) stay at Masoala Birding camp lodge. In the afternoon, we do sort walk and start bird watching. In the evening start night walk to see a different species of lemur and others animals

B-: DAY TOW: Red ruffed Lemur Path; it is long walk takes around 3h to 4h and at evening (before dinner) ready for night walk to see again all night species animals

C-: DAY THREE: Water fall circuit, ready for bird watching again in the morning to see all the birds species like helmeted Vanga, Bernie’s Vanga, sort lagged ground roller, so on… and river trip in Tampolo River by pirogue man from the village of Masoala in afternoon. In evening it’s time to do night walk


D-: DAY FOUR: After breakfast, ready back to Maroantsetra Hotel but via in Nosy Mangabe Island for picnic.

All plan:


A-: DAY ONE- DAY TOW: Camping in Aye-Aye lodge in the tropical park FARANKARIANA. Here the main activity is Aye-Aye watching at night walk (from Juliet-October the possibility to see it is 80 %).

B-: DAY THREE: leave the aye- aye place in the morning and joining Masoala National Park directly to Masoala birding camp lodge for three nights left. Same day in the afternoon we do the sort walk and start bird watching. In evening it’s time for night walk.


C-: DAY FOUR: We do Red ruffed Lemur path. It’s a long walk takes around 3-4h. In evening (before diner)everybody are ready for night walk to see all the species night active animals like mouse lemur, dwarf lemur, sportive lemur and some animals….

E-: DAY five: Picnic in Antalaviana transfer by boat .This is wonderful place, beach, and nice to swim in Antalaviana Big waterfall.

F-: DAY Six: Ready go back to Maroantsetra Hotel but pass to Nosy Mangabe Island for picnic in the Morning. In this island visit take around 4h to seek Uroplatus fumbriatus, the smallest chameleon in the world

Trekking Maroantsetra -Masoala takes 8 days (one way trek and back by boat)

This Trekking is heading and following the coast of Masoala National Park from MAROANTSETRA goes to Masoala National Park

THE TREKKING

Day one: Leave Maroantsetra HOTEL in the morning to join Farankaraina Tropical Private Park and camping one night by Tent there. At night Aye-Aye tour

Day Tow: leave the Ay-Aye place in morning after breakfast to join the second camping place. That takes around 4-6 hours walking. This second days walking through in masoala village life with all wonderful vanilla plantation, cloves discovering…This second camping place name is Beach of Masondrano village

Day Three: Leave the second camping place in the morning to get third camping place. The place name is Ambanizana village. From this time wildlife beauty is spreading. The wonderful forest green colorful and directly meet the sea. Beach is covered the rocks forming the natural status, craved like tsingy of Mada. The walk here takes around 4-6 hours

Day four: Leave again this third place to be on Masoala Birding camp lodge in Masoala National Park. This is last time for walking and it takes 4-6 hours. Comparing of the all last days trip, this one is more wonderful because the path pass in the Primary forest. From this time (day five,six,and seven), the walk is finished and we stay 3 other nights in Masoala Birding Camp(MBC) to do all the type of activity in MASOALA national Park like bird watching, red ruffed circuit, river trip, and so on…. Watching all different species of animals and never forget the name of camp to see all the species of the birds

Day eight: heading back to maroantsetra via to Nosy Mangabe Island for picnic. On this Island, the trip takes 4h to see small chameleon and leafleted gecko and afternoon back to maroantsetra. The trip is finished goodbye for all the team of MBC
